This is Rose. She is between 8 and 10 years old. She was found wandering down the middle of the road alone. Her nails were grown into her pads, she was covered with scabs and sores, and she was as skinny as a rail. Today, she’s happily ensconced in a foster home, waiting to meet just the right person who will love her for the rest of her life and treat her with all the care that she never received before. She’s a gentle, loving, spunky dear of a soul!

These are just a few links that we think are particularly good sources of information for those who want to have a Basset Hound in their lives!

BassetHoundRescue.com

This site offers a current state-by-state listing of Basset Rescues. If you have landed on our site seeking a Basset, but live in another state, we encourage you to try your local rescue first. We’ll be happy to work with you if they cannot meet your needs and we can, but you may well find the Basset of your dreams in your own backyard!

Basset Hound Club of Portland

Information on club activities, breeder referral,  whys/why nots of breeding, and Basset Rescue. They also shared a great article on “So You Want to Buy a Basset Puppy” which is reproduced on this site.

Heather Nadelman’s CyberHound page, with loads of information on all aspects of Basset Hounds and message boards on Basset health, rescue, conformation and performance events, and general Basset Hound behavior.

Home page of the email list, the Daily Drool. In addition to providing information on how to sign up for the mail list, this site provides links to people and rescue groups that offer Basset Hound merchandise, and it maintains a fairly comprehensive list of Basset Hound rescue groups nationally.

Home page of the American Kennel Club. Lots of dog-related information, including breed descriptions and standards, contacts, information about animal health, and information about showing dogs in conformation and performance events.
